The “New Year’s Resolution Smoothie”

Most New Year resolutions are tricky to stick to, so why make life hard?

My thinking is that if you find something that you really love doing which is pretty easy and also really great for you, it will be a breeze to commit to.  Make a healthy treat into a New Years’ Resolution and you won’t struggle.  This achievement will in turn create positive inertia so that you will have more energy to work on those trickier and less enjoyable challenges.

So get your hands on these simple ingredients, blend them up and enjoy this delicious drink.  Make sure you don’t miss a week and that is 52 health-giving drinks a year with very little effort.  If you can, try to manage twice a week and you double the benefits – 104 glasses of health for very little effort.

The “New Year’s Resolution Smoothie”
  • 1 red beetroot
  • 1 small apple
  • Half a peeled orange OR one cucumber
  • One carrot
  • Half a cup of kale OR spinach OR flat-leaf parsley
  • ½ cup ice
  • ½ cup cold water
Blend these little guys up and pour your smoothie into a tall, chilled glass.  If you have one, drink it through a glass straw – every good smoothie deserves a straw and glass ones are MUCH nicer to drink from than plastic – and better for the environment too.
You might want to invest in a Vitamix if you get right into the juicing thing – they are pretty expensive but enable you to process the entire fruit or vegetable, core and all, so you are enjoying the whole food rather than just an extract.

However, when you get started a blender will do the job just fine.
